Port Ellen Distillery

Four decades after closing its doors, Port Ellen had become the most lauded of all the ‘ghost distilleries’. And after six years of radical reimagining, designing and building, the legendary distillery was born again in March 2024. We shared Diageo’s vision for the future of Port Ellen. A vision that celebrated innovation and experimentation — a distillery that looks to the future.

Born 1825, Revived 2024.

This spirit of innovation and experimentation can be seen in every detail including visionary art, unique serves and groundbreaking flavour exploration. By designing from the ground up and pushing the boundaries of whisky making, we were able to breathe new life into Port Ellen

I am enormously proud of the whole team who have worked tirelessly to return the iconic Port Ellen distillery to life. After more than four decades of closure the iconic Islay distillery returns with a radical re-imagining and a stunning visitor centre. Special congratulations to Heart & Feints for your creative vision and relentless pursuit of excellence.”

Jeremy Lindley, Global Design Director, Diageo

We exchanged traditional whisky design cues for a progressive, high-fashion aesthetic — more contemporary art gallery than whisky distillery. This is carried through with commissions from world-renowned artists such as Lucy May Schofield and Harry Morgan.
